High temperatures expected across Southern Ontario this weekend: meteorologist
Environment Canada is expected to issue a heat warning for southern Ontario, with hot conditions potentially lasting until Tuesday, a meteorologist with Environment Canada told CBC Toronto. Daytime temperatures of over 30 C are expected throughout southern Ontario, particularly along the Highway 401 corridor between Windsor and Ottawa, Crawford Luke said. The hottest days are expected to be Sunday and Monday, reaching about 33 C. Humidity levels are expected to be slightly less severe this weekend compared with previous heat waves this summer, making it feel like high 30s, potentially low 40s, he said. Nighttime lows of around 20 C will provide little relief, particularly in big cities like Toronto due to the "urban heat island effect," Luke said. Hot temperatures are expected to continue throughout the month, though he said next week could cool off slightly. "It's entirely possible that we get … another heat warning or heat wave later in August or even into September," Luke said. Advice to help beat the heat Environment Canada is advising people to limit time outside during the hottest hours of the day, between noon and 7 p.m. and to drink water often, Luke said. If possible, he said outdoor workers should try to take more frequent breaks, drink more water and try to periodically get under the shade or go indoors. "Take it easy, listen to your body and don't overdo it," Luke said. People are advised to watch for symptoms of heat stroke. Symptoms can include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion and change in consciousness levels.

Edmonton weather: Hot today and Saturday, cooler Sunday and Monday
CTV Edmonton's Cory Edel has the details on a heat warning in place for the capital city. The heat sticks around for the start of the long weekend in Edmonton. But, we'll be back to highs in the low to mid 20s for Sunday/Monday. There's still some uncertainty with the precipitation timing, but here's how I think it'll probably play out: 40% chance of a hit-and-miss showers or thunderstorm Saturday evening/night. 60% chance of some scattered showers in the area Sunday, especially in the afternoon. 60% chance of a few showers Monday, especially early in the day - good chance of some clearing in the afternoon. So...I do think there's a better chance that we get SOME precipitation than none. But, the likelihood of heavy, steady rain still looks pretty low for the city. Temperatures should be up around 30 C for afternoon highs today and Saturday. Sunday and Monday's highs will be depend on the precipitation. We could be anywhere between 22 C and 26 C for highs in the city. Elsewhere around the province: Showers and thunderstorms in the foothills, northwestern Alberta and scattered across southern Alberta Saturday afternoon and evening. Rain in southern Alberta Sunday with some showers pushing north through the afternoon and evening. Showers and/or periods of steadier rain in east-central and northeastern Alberta on Monday. Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Mainly sunny. High: 31 Tonight - Mainly clear. 9pm: 26 Saturday - Partly cloudy. 30% chance of a late-day shower or thunderstorm. Morning Low: 17 Afternoon High: 30 Sunday - Mix of sun & cloud. 60% chance of a few showers. Morning Low: 17 Afternoon High: 24 Monday - 60% chance of showers early in the day. Clearing in the afternoon. Morning Low: 14 Afternoon High: 24 Tuesday - Partly cloudy. Morning Low: 13 Afternoon High: 25 Wednesday - Partly cloudy. Morning Low: 14 Afternoon High: 26
